Shigeru Nakamura bestowed the name of Ken
Pu Kan upon Taika Oyata's dojo in Okinawa because of his great
punching power and speed.
Taika Oyata bestowed the honor of this name to Jim Logue's
Dojo in South Carolina.
The Ken Pu Kan Dojo is dedicated to
preserving Classical Okinawan Karate as practiced and taught by Taika Seiyu Oyata. The dojo is the oldest operating dojo in the RyuTe system and is proud to bear the name of Taika Oyata's
Okinawan Dojo. |

After returning from Okinawa in 1971, I taught private lessons at my home while I attended college. After moving to Barnwell, SC in 1972, I taught private lessons at my home and opened my first "official" dojo in the fall of 1973. The Barnwell dojo was in operation for 31 years. In August, 2004, the dojo moved to Lexington, SC; co-located in the Palmetto Jujitsu Academy. |

Kenpukan Dojo has moved to 372 Riverchase Way, Lexington, SC Directions: Located just off the intersection of US 378 and Interstate 20. From Columbia, turn right onto Corley Mill Road, then take the next right onto Riverchase way. From Lexington, turn left onto Corley Mill, then take the next right onto Riverchase way. Follow the road to the end, the dojo is the last large building on the right. |
