Around 1953, Shigeru Nakamura
established the Okinawan Kempo Association. Noted for his great punching
power, he pioneered the use of protective sparring armor or bogu in
Okinawa.
Okinawa Kempo stressed full power blows during this type of training.
Witnessing sparring matches in Okinawa was truly a unique experience. No
blows are pulled or thrown lightly and little doubt is left in the mind
of either practitioner if the blow was effective.
